DEV NOTES

This game was made for the Gameboy Competition 2021.

Sorry, for the lack of sounds (which are essential for shooters, whoopsie). Making appropriate sounds for the Gameboy is a chore and I already reached my personal deadline.

Play it on Gameboy Color for better performance.

Originally this game was planned as a RPG-Shooter, which is in my opinion an underdeveloped genre, but this project took waaaaay more time than it should. The Gameboy has it quirks and I made many, many mistakes along the way, but I learned a LOT during development.

Prior to making this game I didn´t have any knowledge about C. I want to encourage everyone to try the ZGB Engine. Zalo, the creator of ZGB, wrote a great tutorial how to use the engine. I used any piece of code I could find to get familiar with the engine. So copy as much as you can in the beginning. It will take a while (especially understanding pointers and structs), but your results will be awesome. Don´t be afraid of coding. The code for this game was written in Notepad++. ZGB is a great engine and Zalo updated it recently. Give it a chance! I hope you had fun playing my game.

Great job! I hope to see more in the future :)

Nice Game! If this really is your first game in C that means you have learn a lot of things, because the game is very polished (no sounds, as you say... those are actually the easiest part!)

Thanks for encouraging people to at least try ZGB, and thanks for using it!

Your tutorial and explanations were easy to follow and very helpful. ZGB makes a ton of fun and I hope you keep working on it. Animated backgrounds and saving...a man can dream, hehe.

Very nice work, especially considering you've never written C before! I found the game to be a little too hard for me (had to cheat w/ rewind to make much progress haha). I really like the enemy design, and can totally see some RPG-style upgrades working well here. Hope you keep working on it!

Thank you. Yeah, the game is hard by design, haha. I don´t think I will work much on this version, because I screwed up many things you have to keep in mind, while delevoping for the Gameboy. For a sequel I would rather do something like a Gauntlet-type of game.
